England Squad:

West Indies Squad:

Shai Hope (wk), Jason Holder (c), Chris Gayle, Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse, Kemar Roach, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Evin Lewis, Andre Russell, Shannon Gabriel, Fabian Allen

What to Expect:

Probably a seaming wicket? Then again, those who caught sight of the pitch briefly on Wednesday commented that it looked similar to Monday’s pitch, which was straw-like in colour but offered some assistance to the West Indies bowlers. Given there will be rain around – ergo, clouds – winning the toss and bowling at 10:30am may be the best way for West Indies to bag two points. The outfield here is usually fast when it’s dry and, barring no overnight rain, that should still be the case.

Team News:

England(ENG):

There are two aspects for Morgan to consider: whether he plumps on pace and how he shuffles his deck. A factor in both is Mark Wood who is experiencing discomfort in his left foot. The concern here is deeper, as it ever is with Wood: this is the same foot of that troublesome ankle which has seen a handful of operations. The noises seem to say it is nothing to do with that specific part and is merely bruising. The England captain did not seem too bothered by what might be but did say the Durham quick will be subject to a fitness test on Friday morning which will be his first bowl this week.

There will perhaps be a motivation to let him sit this one out. Rotation was always going to be key with the fast bowlers at England’s disposal and now may be the time for Tom Curran to get a run around. Moeen Ali is back but playing two spinners may not be necessary on seaming pitch. That being said, while Ali did miss out at Cardiff because Rashid is the superior twirler, the dimensions of the ground here, especially square, could work in the off-spinners favour in terms of selection. Importantly, Jos Buttler has been past fit and will take the gloves after overcoming a hip complaint.

Probable XI:

Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood/Moeen Ali/Tom Curran

West Indies(WI):

The Caribbean side, too, have their own injury-related doubts. Andre Russell hobbled off against Australia after bowling an intense spell but is said to pressing well. Given the type of player he is, Jason Holder has said he is happy to wait and see how the marquee allrounder feels when he wakes up tomorrow morning. Evin Lewis trained on Wednesday and could reunite with Chris Gayle at the top of the order. Lest England forget, the self-styled Universe Boss clattered them for 424 runs at an average of 106.00 across four innings at the start of the year.

Probable XI:

Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas
